Temporary concrete barrier rail, commonly referred to as K-rail, is a reinforced concrete barrier
engineered for effective traffic separation and work-zone protection.
Each section is constructed with rebar reinforcement and equipped with end loops
that accommodate K-rail pins or allow for secure ground-mounting with posts.
Integrated lifting points are positioned at mid-height to support safe and efficient
handling with approved lifting equipment.
Although simple in appearance, K-rail is a highly engineered safety system designed to
manage vehicle impacts. When a vehicle makes contact, the barrier’s profile guides the
wheel and bumper upward, then redirects the vehicle as it becomes parallel to the rail.
This controlled redirection helps maintain vehicle stability and reduces the likelihood of
rollover.
When connected in sequence, K-rail provides a reliable method for preventing lane crossover
and minimizing the risk of head-on collisions. It also serves as a durable protective boundary
for active work zones, enhancing worker safety by shielding crews from intruding vehicles.
K-rail is also commonly known as a Jersey barrier.
